A Look Forward: 2017 and Beyond
A new year brings new opportunities.
While for some people it’s a joke, many look at the beginning of the year as a chance to do things differently. There is something in their lives they want to change in order for their lives to move forward. Maybe it is quitting smoking, getting in better shape, being more organized, or finding time to relax in this busy world.
For those of us at Wordkrapht, we also have sat down and thought about the new year and how we hope it to be. 2016 was not the best year for us. There were stops and starts, and struggles behind the scenes that made running this site more than a little difficult. Please remember that there is no money being made here. What we do is done for the love of the music, artists and community as a whole. Those of us who work on this site take time from our families and friends to bring as much new content to you as we can. Please don’t think this is whining. None of us look at this task as a negative one. We truly love doing what we do. There are just times where life gets in the way and there is nothing we can do to prevent it.
Over the course of the last year, we saw some artists we have covered move on to larger stages. We also saw bands break up, lose members and musicians decide to put their dreams on hold and focus on things like rent, food and a roof over their heads. The sad thing about an independent artist moving on, is that there is little if any splash. One day they are there, the next they are gone, and all you have is a collection of tunes that you fell in love with. This industry is not easy, the same technology that has given an opportunity to so many, is also a negative, in that there is so much white noise out there, it can be an arduous task to find the real gems.
That doesn’t mean we won’t keep looking.
We are hopeful that this will be a great year. A year in which we find more of our friends finding success, a year where we continue to help music lovers find a new artist to obsess over, a year where we provide as much interesting content and new ideas that we can. We can’t do this alone though. We want to hear from you! The goal has always been for this site to become and interactive community. We have always hoped it would be a place where musician and music lover can come to discuss ideas, explore new music and create lifelong relationships.
We have not lost sight of that goal, nor have we given up on it. We will keep working to provide you with opportunities to hear great music. We’d love to talk to you. Please do not hesitate to say hello or tell us about an artist you think we should know about. Tell us about an artist you found here that you really enjoy. PLEASE make an effort to support that artist by buying music and going to shows.
We are a community. It may be fragmented and dysfunctional, but hell, what family isn’t? Let’s keep working to provide an avenue for independent artists. Show them love and support. That’s what we do as we continue to Reinvent Indie.
