Ian Fitzgerald- You Won’t Even Know I’m Gone
Ladies and gentlemen, the name I am about to introduce to you is a special one. Are you ready? Ian Fitzgerald. Did you catch it? I’ll say it one more time. Ian Fitzgerald. If the name is new to you, I am excited to share his music with you for the first time. For the time being we will say that Fitzgerald is a folk singer-songwriter who currently resides in Rhode Island. With 4 albums under his belt, Fitzgerald is known and respected for his songwriting and storytelling capabilities. On November 18th, Ian will be releasing his 5th album, You Won’t Even Know I’m Gone. With appearances by Smith&Weeden, MorganEve Swain (The Huntress and Holder of Hands, Brown Bird), co-producer Eric Lichter, James Maple, Jesse Hanson just to name a few, the album is nothing short of stunning.
Now, remember when we mentioned how Fitzgerald is in the folk singer-songwriter genre? Just for a moment forget that. Fitzgerald has this uncanny ability to blend genres and elements of each genre so effortlessly that for a moment you don’t even think about what you’re listening to, just that it’s so damn good. Putting him in a catorgorized box would be counterproductive. Take one listen and you’ll know exactly what I mean.
While his delivery is cool, calm and collected like Petty his voice is distinct and instantly recognizable like Dylan. Listening to Fitzgerald sing, you feel that he’s lived the stories and truly believes in them.
The stories woven on You Won’t Even Know I’m Gone are complex and intriguing. Whether personal or about the lives of others, Fitzgerald knows his way around the pen. His ability to strike a chord and hit close to home with just one line is remarkable, if you have a chance to take a gander at the lyrics, go do it.
Some albums are appropriate for playing in the background just to keep you company, while others are designed to keep you happy and dancing. You Won’t Even Know I’m Gone demands your full attention and consideration. In return you’ll be graced with songs that will dance around in your mind filling you with stories and whimsy (that’s not taking away from the serious subject matter of the songs). From beginning to end, the album is beyond cohesive, beautifully produced and executed. This is an album for the serious music listener. I’m also going to go out on a limb and say that these songs are even more potent live and in person.
Speaking of live and in person, you can catch Fitzgerald and friends starting tomorrow until December 5th. If you see your city on the list, do yourself a favor and support this artist and the talented people he will be playing with.
You Won’t Even Know I’m Gone once again will be available November 18th. You can pre-order now, and connect with Fitzgerald via the links at the bottom of the page. You know what to do.
