The Daily Krapht – Hey Anna – “Island”
Oh Anna (and Erin and Katie…and Jamie and Matt too), you bring us such joy! The band Hey Anna is back with a new video for their latest single, “Island.” Off of their debut LP, Run Koko, when you close your eyes, the music creates the image of a late summer day, enjoying the beach or the afternoon in a hammock with an ice cold adult or three. When we reviewed the album as a whole (spoiler alert – we REALLY liked it!), we said of the track that “it is almost as if this was a movie and this would be played during the closing credits. It has all the highlights of a good Hey Anna song.”
The video is filled with beautiful, colorful imagery that just pops off the screen. Two young travelers on a boat find an island and set off to explore. The timid searching gradually changes as our two heroes conquer the wilderness both externally and internally. It’s almost as if you can hear someone yell “let the wild rumpus begin” as they begin to dance in the bamboo forest. Seeing as how the cover art for Run Koko is of a tiger, it is fitting to see the sharp imagery of a live one in the video. One could suggest that the large cat is stalking our two young explorers, but I’d like to think he is just providing security to make sure no one else crashes the dance party in the jungle!
You can see Hey Anna next at the Mercury Lounge in NYC on 9/24.
