Cold Blue Kid- Way Out
Alex Longoria, front man and brains behind Chicago’s own Cold Blue Kid was last featured on Wordkrapht in 2013. Since then Longoria has been through a hell of a lot. Life happens to all of us, and Longoria is using this as fuel for his passion; not as an excuse to surrender.
After a divorce, Longoria found himself a full time single dad AND a full time student. In spite of all that Cold Blue Kid released their third studio album through Laser Tag Records. As fellow parents who know the struggle, we applaud that.
Way Out is the three track EP Longoria released with the help of some fresh new faces that helped solidify the band to what it is today. Released in May, the three tracks begin as quickly as they end so don’t be afraid to press repeat and begin the process again.
“Way Out”, the Ep’s title track starts us off and is a delightful dance of dream pop, surfer indie rock and shoe gaze. Catchy choruses mingle with distortion elements and heads will happily bop along. “Monday Boo” is to me, what Monday morning would sound like if it were a song. This isn’t a gloomy, “Oh it’s Monday..bring on the coffee” vibe so let’s get that straight. “Monday Boo” feels like a quiet anticipation, a hopefulness that today will be a great day. It’s the sounds of tiptoeing around the room not daring to wake anyone up as you prepare to make the most of your life.
Way Out is available now for free, I repeat FREE download on soundcloud. Take a listen, download and then go support Cold Blue Kid on all their social media sites. Happy Monday.
