The Daily Krapht – Todd Carey – “Light Her Up”
Todd Carey is the indie music community’s version of Taylor Swift or Meghan Trainor (Carey is actually a cowriter of Trainor’s track, “3AM” from her first album, Title). He has this gift of writing incredibly infectious songs that some of us may consider a guilty pleasure in order to keep up with our music cred. Let’s be honest, as much as we want to admit to liking the “cool” indie bands, we are all guilty of secretly jamming out to a little T.Swift every now and then. (It took this writer years to openly admit to enjoying Miss Swift.)
Todd Carey has the gift of creating these extra catchy, pop songs that get stuck in your head for days and have you singing them out loud after the first listen. Oh, and we can guarantee you will have this song on repeat. Back in 2013, we learned this about Carey from the song we covered, “Nintendo,” and his latest single, “Light Her Up” is no exception. Carey has done it again with a body swaying, head bobbing, sing along kind of song. It’ll be no surprise to see Carey’s fans shadowing his “oh oh oh oh’s” in this pop track with a hint of a reggae influence. For those of you who aren’t ready to openly take the plunge into admitting you’re digging Todd Carey’s “Light Her Up,” just keep secretly playing his tunes through those headphones of yours, but we know we’ll be turning it up loud and proud for all the world to hear!
