The Daily Krapht – Sexy Fights – “The End”
March sure has burst in like a lion this year as it greets the release of the first LP from Chicagoans, Sexy Fights – a foxy, space-pop group that that is taking their flirtatious groove to a new ethereal level. “The End” is the latest single from the upcoming LP Too Far Out and is a forceful, synth-driven break-up ballad that Sexy Fights claims has “very conscious Bowie inspirations.” I can see what they mean as “The End” combines heartfelt, emotional lyrics with a spaced-out, down-tempo backdrop. The sheer passion emanating from Brzezinski’s voice is almost overwhelming and is a bit distracting from the rest of the musicianship at play. But if you listen carefully, you will notice the celestial tones circulating underneath the blaring dream pop- scape which lightens the mood and gives the listener a taste of what Sexy Fights is really about.
“The End” is more of an anomaly than a standard track for Sexy Fights. You will likely find the other tracks on Too Far Out to be upbeat, retro, and more danceable than the smoldering sensitivities of “the End.” “Bending Light,” another release from Too Far Out is epitomic of Sexy Fights’ poppy, dreamy, electronic sound. Taking cues from modern club hits and 1980’s synth grooves, it is super fun, super fly, and ready for a Friday night on the town.

As previously mentioned, Sexy Fights is open about its admiration for our dearly departed David Bowie and a post from the group’s Facebook page in reference to “The End” sums it up best: “All of our bleeps & bloops, our glitz & our glam: this one goes up to the Starman.” And they are not lying. Stay tuned to hear more from Sexy Fights as they take the Chicago music scene by storm!
