FeminINDIE: Megan Landry
Do you remember yourself at 17? Can you remember your talents, dreams, or even that teenage angst you felt? I certainly do, and if I was even a smidgen as talented as our next FeminINDIE artist currently is I would consider myself lucky. Megan Landry, Canadian artist and only 17 years old has been playing piano since the age of 4 and writing since the age of 11. She is currently in her last year of high school, and along with the usual array of homework Landry is creating music and working two part-time jobs.
During the search for our FeminINDIE artists, we had the chance to get to know Landry, and what we found out was pretty impressive. If there was ever a perfect model for success, Landry would have the ultimate blue print. Brains, heart, the drive and of course the talent is only the tip of the iceberg. Read on and discover why we think Megan Landry is FeminINDIE.
As we mentioned before, she is still in high school and writing her own music. She also comes up with the treatments for her videos, and directs them as well. If that weren’t enough to impress you, she even has an altruistic conscience. 50% of the sales from her music go to the charity, World Vision. She told us a little bit about the charity, and how it ties in with her song and video, “Wallpaper”
“No child should suffer. World Vision brings hope where there may be none. The planet is in such peril, we’ve created this and the future seems lost. If you watched ‘Wallpaper’, you would get that message from this song.”
Landry also mentioned she currently is writing a song for Hillingdon Manor School, a specialist school in the UK for children who are on the autistic spectrum.
Aside from being extremely talented musically, Megan is also very interested in video, photography and design. One of her two part-time jobs is being assistant to the editor at Mercury Filmworks where they work on Disney cartoons for networks like Teletoons. “Being a self-directed videographer was what landed me this awesome job.” She mentioned.
Though it seems as if Landry has all the requirements to become an over-night sensation, she is still taking things slow. “I don’t have aspirations of being a star but hope that music will play a role in my life”
She will be enrolling at Algonquin College in the fall for their Graphic Design program with the School of Media and Design. Whatever this talented artist chooses to do, we know it will be great. When we decided to do a feature on independent female musicians from around the world, we had no idea the amount of talent we were going to come across. It really is so wonderful to yet another talented, caring and intelligent young lady in our midst, and hopefully she has inspired you as she has inspired us.
